JOEL HÄRKÖNEN
Joel Härkönen is a Finnish theatre director and performance designer. He graduated from the Theatre Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki as a theatre director in 2021.
In my artistic practice, questions of social sustainability, process-based and ensemble-driven creation within institutional theatre, and the dismantling of patriarchal norms have become central. As someone raised as a boy and grown into a man in the role of a theatre director, I feel a responsibility to challenge and unlearn the structures that have shaped me, my body and emotions. I strive to make space for vulnerability, collective presence, and deep listening both in artistic work and the processes that generate it.
